1. 這是一則猶太人流傳下來的民間故事。有一個人非常有錢,有很多財產,有一天,他得了重病,沒辦法康復。因為他很有錢,所以他的家人從各地請了好多出名的醫生來幫他看病,但是都沒有人能夠把他的病醫好。
2. 他的病越來越嚴重,看起來好像沒有藥救了、沒有希望了。當他的家人已經絕望的時候,有一位從遠方來的修行人經過,就跟他們說:「如果你們能夠找到一個很快樂的人,把他身上的衣服拿下來,讓你們父親穿上,他的病就會好。」
3. 那個富翁的家人聽了,就到處去找快樂的人,但是他們找遍了各地,都找不到一個真正快樂的人。因為他們找到的那些人,他們的快樂都不是圓滿的,所以不能算是真正快樂的人。他們就這樣一直找,找到最後都放棄希望了。不過那個富翁有一個兒子非常孝順,他不想讓父親離開他們,決定要把父親的病醫好,就離開家鄉,去到很遠的地方,決心要找到一個真正快樂的人。
4. 有一天,他走得很累了,天又黑了,他就想找個地方休息一下。這時候他正巧看到一個山洞,於是就打算在那邊休息過夜。當他來到山洞外面時,聽到有聲音從裡面傳出來:「啊!我是這麼快樂的人!我今天過了這麼好的一天,我每天都非常快樂!我什麼都好,我什麼都很高興、很歡喜!我是最快樂的人!我是真正快樂的人!」那個聲音一直這樣念,還發出很歡喜的笑聲,然後又聽他說:「啊!我現在想睡覺了,我很快樂地去睡覺。即使我現在死了,也會很快樂!」
5. 富翁的兒子聽了當然非常高興,他心想:「父親的病終於有救了!」於是就趕快跑進山洞裡找那個講話的人,準備把他的衣服拿下來。結果跑進去卻看到那個人全身光溜溜的,什麼衣服都沒穿!他就站在那邊,不知道該如何是好?
6. 那個快樂的人看到他一副很失望、很受挫折的樣子,就問:「你怎麼啦?」富翁的兒子說:「我想找一些東西卻找不到。」那個快樂的人就問:「你想找什麼東西?」富翁的兒子說:「我父親病得很嚴重,有一位修行人說,如果我能夠找到一個真正快樂的人,把他的衣服拿下來,帶回去給我父親穿上,他的病就會好。所以我才會來這裡想拿你的衣服,沒想到你竟然沒有穿任何衣服!」那個快樂的人說:「哎呀!我如果有穿衣服的話,就不會這麼快樂了!」
7. 他的意思是說,如果他有任何財產的話,就會有負擔,不會那麼快樂。就因為他什麼都沒有,所以他沒有壓力,不會怕失去任何東西,不怕別人來偷,不怕自己的東西會毀壞掉,也不用擔心明天沒有該怎麼辦?因為他什麼都沒有,不能和別人比較,所以也不怕別人的東西比他好。因此,他沒有什麼憂慮,不需要擔心什麼,不怕別人來偷,不怕別人傷害他,所以他才會那麼快樂。
