Muchhasbeengiventous,andmuchwillrightfullybeexpectedfromus.Wehavedutiestoothersanddutiestoourselvesandwecanshirkneither.Wehavebecomeagreatnation,forcedbythefactofitsgreatnessintorelationswiththeothernationsoftheearth,andwemustbehaveasbe-seemsapeoplewithsuchresponsibilities.Towardallothernations,largeandsmall,ourattitudemustbeoneofcordialandsincerefriendship.Wemustshownotonlyinourwords,butinourdeeds,thatweareearnestlydesirousofsecuringtheirgoodwillbyactingtowardtheminaspiritofjustandgenerousrecognitionofalltheirrights.Butjusticeandgenerosityinanation,asinanindividual,countmostwhenshownnotbytheweakbutbythestrong.Whileevercarefultorefrainfromwrongdoingothers,wemustbenolessinsistentthanwearenotwrongedourselves.Wewishpeace,butwewishitbecausewethinkitisrightandnotbecauseweareafraid.Noweaknationthatactsmanfullyandjustlyshouldeverhavecausetofearus,andnostrongpowershouldeverbeabletosingleusoutasasubjectforinsolentaggression.
