一些年輕人似乎認為，錢就是用來買好的衣服、食品和玩具，和娛樂活動。另一些人則認為，錢可以買來閒暇。他們認為，人生最大的幸福就是無須工作地活著。金錢的用途根本不是無須工作，我們應該探求其更為深層的價值。
金錢是商貿流通的媒介。家庭要用錢來購買生活日用品，社會存在和商貿繁榮的標誌都是貨幣。有了錢，就有了衣、食、住，可以接受學校教育，擁有許多可讀之書，也可以進行許多益智娛樂，行善事。
當然，金錢不是供儲存的東西，它只有在被使用時才能體現其價值。僅是為了儲存金錢，則毫無價值。不用金錢去買生活必需品，也不去救濟需要幫助的人，而是把它儲存起來，那不是金錢的用途。
有人說：「愛錢是萬惡之源。」就是說，一切邪惡——撒謊、偷盜、欺騙、搶掠甚至謀殺都源於對金錢的追求。因此，我們不要嗜錢如命。
